Audiology

Audiology is the study of hearing, hearing disorders, and habilitation/rehabilitation for
individuals with hearing loss. Audiologists are health care and education professionals
who identify, assess, and manage disorders of auditory (hearing), balance, and other
neural systems.

The scope of practice includes:

Identification, assessment, diagnosis, management, and interpretation of test results
related to disorders of human hearing, balance, and other neural systems

Educating consumers and professionals on the prevention of hearing loss

Selecting, fitting, and dispensing hearing instruments and assistive listening devices

Evaluation and management of children and adults with central auditory processing
disorders

Conduct and manage hearing screening programs for infants, children, and adults
Participating is hearing conservation programs

Working with children and adults who need aural rehabilitation
